Natural Drain Cleaners
» Baking Soda & Vinegar
Did you know that you can clean a drain with baking soda and vinegar? If you didn’t, you do now! All you have to do is clear the area around the sink to ensure no extra dirt, debris, food scraps, or anything else get in the way.
Put the baking soda down the drain and chase it with the vinegar and then plug the drain, letting it rest for an hour. When it comes time to unplug the drain, pour a boiling pot of water down into the drain and continue to do so until the drain is free and clear.
» Wire Coat Hanger
If you don’t want to deal with any liquids whatsoever or happen to know that the clog is a single big clump, you can use a coat hanger to get into the tight spaces of the drain and fish out that clog. The hanger has a little hook built-in so that you can hook out the issue with little to no problem.
It is recommended that if you use this method and remove as much of the blockage as you can, run hot water down the sink to clear away some of the loosest of debris. This can require a little bit of patience as you might not be able to see what you are doing, but it is an effective method of getting the job done.
» Dish Soap & Hot Water
This is another method in which you can use household items to get the job done. Mix the soap in with the boiling water to create a concoction that then gets poured slowly down the sink. This method can take a few tries to get right, but it is excellent for grease clogs.
This method heats the grease or builds up to a liquid so that it can then travel out of the pipe safely without having to fish it out. This method is secure, but it can take a little bit of effort to get all of the debris, hair, and grime out completely.
» Plunger
This is the most common method of getting rid of a clogged drain that there is. There are specific plungers that are made for drains in your sink or shower, so make sure to get that one instead of the accordion or another type of plunger that is typically meant for the bathroom.
Plungers are cheap and useful enough that you can have one in each bathroom in your home. It might not be the quickest method, but with a little patience, it should be enough to remove any clog in your bathroom. Here are the Methods to unclog a bathroom sink with different types of plungers and other tools.
» Baking Soda & Salt
By mixing this natural drain cleaner and pouring it down the drain, you can effectively get rid of those clogs and buildups. The thing is, it has to sit for at least a half-hour, but it may need to sit overnight to provide the full potential impact.
When the time for sitting has passed, you will want to pour boiling water down the drain to wash away all of the loose debris and buildup.
